Preparing a lunchbox for your child can be a challenge for many parents. A good lunchbox should be practical, appealing to children, easy to eat, and still provide balanced nutrition. Ideally, it should include carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals to keep children energized throughout their day of learning and playing at school.

One fun way to prepare a healthy lunchbox is by following the Indonesian Ministry of Health's Isi Piringku concept. The Ministry recommends filling a lunchbox with one-third staple foods such as rice, one-third vegetables, and the remaining portion divided equally between protein-rich side dishes and fruit, with each making up one-sixth of the meal. These nutritional guidelines also emphasize limiting processed foods, creating colorful and visually appealing meals to prevent children from getting bored, and encouraging them to bring enough drinking water every day (1).

In addition to rice or bread, oats and granola can also be practical lunchbox options. Oats are well known as a source of complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber. Research involving children has shown that breakfasts containing oatmeal are associated with better overall diet quality and higher intake of essential nutrients compared to children who skip breakfast (2).

Granola offers a more appealing way for children to enjoy oats thanks to its crunchy texture and versatility. Parents can pack granola in a small container and pair it with yogurt, milk, sliced bananas, strawberries, apples, or any of their child's favorite fruits. This combination requires very little preparation time, is easy to carry, and provides a refreshing alternative to heavier lunchbox meals.

To make lunchboxes even more attractive, use small portions with a variety of colorful ingredients. For example, a lunchbox can include YAVA Granola, yogurt, and fresh-cut fruit. For an even more convenient option, choose YAVA Granola fruit varieties such as Chocolate Banana, Coconut Banana, Triple Berry, Tropical Fruits, or Banana Pineapple. Children can enjoy the natural sweetness of fruit, the satisfying crunch of granola, and a meal that is quick and easy for parents to prepare.

By choosing the right ingredients, children's lunchboxes can be healthy, practical, and enjoyable. Oats and granola are smart choices that help children enjoy delicious meals while providing better nutrition.
